About this module

A new kind of ethical question has entered the room.

Artificial intelligence introduces genuinely new ethical questions into education, about authorship, dependency, bias, and what a student is and isn't developmentally served by delegating to a machine, and these questions deserve more than an improvised answer. This module builds a teacher's moral and ethical reasoning specifically for this new terrain, so that AI integration decisions get made with the same intentionality this pathway has asked for everywhere else.

What you'll explore

Three shifts this module is building toward.

  • The genuinely new ethical questions AI raises in education, beyond simple academic honesty concerns.
  • A framework for reasoning through an AI-related classroom decision rather than improvising one.
  • Where this teacher's own school currently lacks a clear ethical stance on AI use, and what that's costing.

Three lanes of knowing

Understood, practiced, and explored.

Lane 1 · Science

New ethical terrain

What's understood about the genuinely new categories of ethical question AI introduces into education, distinct from earlier academic-honesty frameworks.

Lane 2 · Practice

An ethical-reasoning framework

A short, practical framework for reasoning through a real AI-related classroom decision, rather than defaulting to a rule of thumb.

Lane 3 · Meaning-making

What do I actually believe about AI's place in learning?

Reflection on this teacher's own evolving ethical stance on AI's role in a student's development.

Outcome

"I have a real framework for reasoning through AI-related ethical questions in my classroom."
