About this module

Finding belonging that reaches beyond the self.

Belonging is often described in fairly small terms, a friend group, a family, a team, but a teenager approaching adulthood is also capable of locating themselves inside something considerably larger: a culture, a lineage, a generation, a planet held in common with billions of other people. This module widens the lens on belonging deliberately, helping a teen find a genuine, felt sense of their place inside something bigger than any single relationship, while those closer, smaller belongings continue to matter just as much.

What they'll explore

Three shifts this module is building toward.

  • How belonging operates at different scales, from a close relationship to something much larger.
  • A way of locating a genuine sense of belonging inside something bigger than any one relationship.
  • Practice naming one larger context they feel a real, specific belonging to.

Three lanes of knowing

Understood, practiced, and explored.

Lane 1 · Science

Why belonging operates at multiple scales

What's understood about how a sense of belonging to something larger, a culture, a generation, a cause, supports wellbeing alongside closer relationships.

Lane 2 · Practice

Locating a larger belonging

A guided exercise identifying a genuine, felt sense of belonging to something larger than their immediate relationships.

Lane 3 · Meaning-making

What do I belong to, beyond myself?

Reflection naming a specific, larger context, a culture, a cause, a community, they feel genuinely part of.

Outcome

"I have a real sense of where I belong, both close in and in something much larger than myself."
