About this module

Discovering the influence they already have.

Most teenagers assume leadership requires a title, an election, or an official role, which leaves a great deal of quiet, real influence going unused simply because no one names it as leadership. This module makes the case that influence without authority, the kind exercised through consistency, initiative, and how someone treats others, is both available to a teen right now and often more durable than anything that depends on a position. Recognizing the influence they already carry is the first step toward using it with intention.

What they'll explore

Four shifts this module is building toward.

  • Why leadership without a title is both available now and frequently more durable than formal authority.
  • A few specific ways influence shows up in everyday actions, separate from any official role.
  • Where in their own life they're already exercising more influence than they've noticed.
  • Practice using that influence intentionally in one specific, upcoming situation.

Three lanes of knowing

Understood, practiced, and explored.

Lane 1 · Science

What actually predicts influence

What's understood about informal influence in groups, and why consistency and initiative tend to matter more than formal position.

Lane 2 · Practice

Naming their existing influence

A short exercise identifying moments this month they already led, without a title attached to it.

Lane 3 · Meaning-making

What would I do with influence, on purpose?

Reflection on an upcoming situation where they could choose to lead without waiting for permission.

Outcome

"I can recognize the influence I already have, and use it on purpose."
