About this module

The body is a regulation tool a classroom rarely uses on purpose.

Movement and body awareness are usually treated as something that happens outside the classroom, at recess or in PE, rather than as one of the most direct tools available for regulating a room, and this module corrects that by teaching physical intelligence as an active, intentional part of daily teaching. A few minutes of deliberate movement or breath can shift a room's regulation state more reliably than almost any verbal intervention, and this module makes that tool available on purpose.

What you'll explore

Five shifts this module is building toward.

  • Why movement and breath are among the fastest, most reliable ways to shift a room's regulation state.
  • A short set of movement and breath practices usable inside an ordinary class period.
  • How to read a room's physical state as information about its readiness to learn.
  • A plan for building regular movement into this teacher's own weekly structure.
  • What's lost in a classroom that treats the body as irrelevant to learning.

Three lanes of knowing

Understood, practiced, and explored.

Lane 1 · Science

The body-mind link in learning

What's understood about how physical state directly affects cognitive access, attention, and emotional regulation in a classroom.

Lane 2 · Practice

A movement-and-breath toolkit

A short set of movement and breath practices a teacher can use inside an ordinary class period, no special equipment needed.

Lane 3 · Meaning-making

When did I last use the body on purpose in my teaching?

Reflection on how much this teacher's current practice uses physical intelligence intentionally, versus leaving it to chance.

Outcome

"I have real movement and breath tools I use on purpose to shift my room's state."
