About this module

Turning a vague sense of the future into something concrete.

Most teenagers carry some sense of the future they want, but it tends to stay vague, a feeling more than a picture, which makes it hard to build toward with any real intention. This module works to make that future concrete: specific enough to describe, specific enough to take a real first step toward, with no plan at this age needing to be treated as permanent. A vision only needs to be clear enough to move toward, not fixed in place forever.

What they'll explore

Four shifts this module is building toward.

  • Why a vague sense of the future is harder to build toward than a specific, even temporary, one.
  • A structured way of making a desired future concrete enough to describe clearly.
  • The difference between a vision that's fixed and one that's simply clear enough to act on for now.
  • One real, specific first step toward the future they've described.

Three lanes of knowing

Understood, practiced, and explored.

Lane 1 · Science

Why specificity makes a vision actionable

What's understood about goal-setting research, and why a concrete, specific vision is more likely to be acted on than a vague aspiration.

Lane 2 · Practice

Making the vision concrete

A guided exercise turning a vague sense of the future into a specific, describable picture.

Lane 3 · Meaning-making

What's the first real step toward this?

Reflection identifying one genuine, achievable first step toward the future they've just described.

Outcome

"I have a concrete picture of the future I'm building, and a real first step toward it."
